The MSR Freelite 3-Person Ultralight Backpacking Tent is designed for adventurers seeking the perfect combination of weight, space, and durability. Lightweight and compact, this tent is ideal for backpacking trips where every ounce counts without compromising on comfort.
With a trail weight of just over three pounds, the Freelite easily fits into your pack, allowing you to carry it effortlessly on long hikes. Despite its ultralight design, the tent provides ample space, comfortably accommodating three people with its generous floor area. The interior features high peak height and vertical sidewalls which maximize livable space, making it easy to sit up and move around inside.
Setting up the Freelite is quick and simple, thanks to its intuitive design and color-coded poles. The tent employs a hub-and-pole system that helps streamline the setup process, ensuring you can get your shelter ready quickly, even in changing weather conditions. The rainfly offers excellent waterproof protection, while the seams are fully sealed to keep moisture at bay, ensuring you stay dry during rainy nights.
The tent’s mesh panels provide effective ventilation and help reduce condensation, creating a comfortable atmosphere inside while also allowing you to stargaze during clear nights. The footprint is sold separately, enhancing durability and providing extra protection from rocky ground and sharp objects.
Additional features include multiple internal pockets for organizing gear, a vestibule for storing backpacks and outdoor equipment, and reflective guy lines for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions. The Freelite is also compatible with MSR’s Gear Shed, allowing for expanded storage options on your trips.
Whether you are embarking on a weekend getaway or a multi-day trek, the MSR Freelite 3-Person Ultralight Backpacking Tent is an exceptional choice that prioritizes ease of use, comfort, and protection in the great outdoors.

I honestly thought this was going to be a good tent. I’ve had several MSR tents in the past and have always been satisfied, but this is the worst tent i have ever owned. I am extremely disappointed. the design is really crappy, when it rains and you open the outer layer, all the water goes right into the tent onto your sleeping bag and pad. Water usually comes in when it rains. I just used it one night and woke up floating in water. The seals are coming apart and the seams are breaking. i
I have had this tent for a very short time and i have used it about 5 times…please don’t buy this piece of crap and save yourself those hundreds of dollars…I wrote to them and they never wrote me back…This is sad, but I’m not sure we can trust MSR to be a good company anymore.

This was the perfect buy. It was able to withstand storm force winds and rain giving me and my partner very comfortable and relaxing camping experiences in our tropical island, while being well ventilated.
Its durability was surprising and its so light you might think you’re not carrying it in your bag pack lol

Bought the 2022 freelite 3, lite for a 3 person tent. It was a really good price. Bought it for a up coming backpacking trip.
